The IBMŸ LotusŸ DominoŸ Administrator includes a set of default event generators, which are listed in the Event Generators view of the Monitoring Configuration database (EVENTS4.NSF). To monitor other events that are important to you, you must create an event generator and define the type and severity of the event.

To create an event generator, click the Configuration tab of the Domino Administrator and then click Monitoring Configuration - Event Generators. Then open the view for the type of event generator to create and click the button shown. The event generator document is created in the view.

The following table lists the types of event generators you can create. If you purchased an add-in product designed to work with server-management programs, you may see additional types of events listed.

Database event generator	Monitors database activity and free space Monitors frequency and success of database replication Reports on ACL changes, including those made by replication or an API program
Domino server response event generator	Checks connectivity and port status of designated servers in a network
Mail routing event generator	ISpy task sends a mail-trace message to a particular user's mail server and gathers statistics indicating the amount of time, in seconds, it takes to deliver the message -1 indicates mail-trace failure
Statistic event generator	Monitors a specific Domino or platform statistic Requires that statistic alarms be enabled on the Domino Server (through Server Statistic Collection document) or the Domino Administrator (through File - Preferences - Administration Preferences) Exceeded thresholds create alarm documents in the Monitoring Results database (STATREP.NSF) Statistic events created for initial alarm reports, then created once daily, by default, until alarms cleared.
Task status event generator	Monitors the status of Domino server and add-in tasks
TCP server event generator	ISpy task sends a probe verifying the availability of Internet ports (TCP services) on a server and generates a statistic indicating the amount of time, in milliseconds, it takes to verify that the server is responding on the specified port -1 indicates probe failure

Event severity levels

The severity of an event indicates the level of required action.

Severity level	Meaning
Fatal	Imminent system crash
Failure	Severe failure that does not cause a system crash
Warning (high)	Loss of function requiring intervention
Warning (low)	Performance degradation
Normal	Status messages
